Made by hand in a thousand year old tradion in Bolivia, the Artisan combines the warmth of natural furs with modern motives to produce a tastefully unique luxury for the home.  Whether used as a rug, a bedspread, or a wall hanging, you'll have something that will be in the family for generations. The vegetably tanned sheepskin pelts are carefully selected for color, texture, and the fine naturally occuring shadings best suited for the chosen design; then cut to fit the field definitions in the design.  Exacting attention is paid to the nuances carried by the tones and shadings of each piece in the final composition. The cutting must of course be to the greatest of tolerances for a clean fit after sewing in a Wall Hanging / Rug-fashion.  Sewing is no less demanding, being done with an especially developed hand-operated sewing machine. Trimming of the fur provides an even surface, and lends texture to those design fields accented through a structured trimming. Our Artisans are truely of the best, the finished piece brings an unequalled measure of ease and elegance to any decor. Care:  Shaking or vacuuming (be carefull not to catch the fur in vacuum rollers) removes dust and most dirt.  Should the product still show harder to get at dirt, we recommend dry cleaning.  Spots come out easily with any alcohol-based spot remover. Mounting:  For use as a wall hanging, it#s usually sufficient to tack the piece directly onto the wall (several thumb tacks along the top will do).  A more permanent mounting is to first mount a thin strip of wood on the wall to which the top of the piece would then be tacked.  Special Orders:  Any design you desire is possible, in any shape or size.  Please provide an accurate sketch of the desired piece, with dimensions of each field in the design, and colors for each field.  Usually the Artisan finishes the outer edge of the piece with a fur trim (specify color also for this), although you may specify no trim. Colors:  Since we don't dye the pelts, we are limited to the naturally occuring colors:  creamy white, beige, brown, natural black, and light or dark gray.  Gray colors are rarer, so a piece with a lot of gray could take more time. Of course, you may specify a solid-colored piece, ie. without design, or with a simple different-collored border with trim. The sheep are not killed to get their fur; the pelts are a by-product to the raising of sheep for food in the highlands of Bolivia.
